What makes up the price
- Park and conservation fees — charged per person per day by the parks; a significant part of every safari budget, especially in the Serengeti and Ngorongoro.
- Accommodation — from simple camping and budget lodges to comfortable mid-range lodges and luxury tented camps. This is the biggest variable.
- Private vehicle and guide — shared between your group, so the per-person cost falls as your group grows.
- Season — peak season (June–October and the holidays) costs more than the green season.
- Flights — optional light-aircraft flights save time but add cost.
A rough guide
As a general orientation, private safaris in Tanzania range from budget trips using camping or simple lodges, through mid-range safaris in comfortable lodges and tented camps, to luxury safaris in exclusive camps. The difference between levels is mostly where you sleep — the wildlife and the parks are the same.
Because fees and rates change by season, we don't publish one fixed price. Send us your dates, group size and preferred comfort level, and we'll send a clear, itemised quote — no obligation.
How to get the best value
- Travel in the shoulder or green season for lower lodge rates.
- Travel as a group of 3–6 to share vehicle costs.
- Choose fewer parks and more time in each to reduce driving.
- Mix accommodation levels — for example, a special camp in the Serengeti and simpler lodges elsewhere.

Frequently asked questions
Why are Tanzania safaris expensive?
Park and conservation fees, remote logistics and accommodation inside protected areas all add cost — but these fees also fund conservation and local communities.
Are park fees included in a safari price?
In Gallop quotes, park fees are normally included and listed clearly. Always check what's included when comparing operators.
Is a private safari more expensive than a group tour?
Per person it can be, but for families and groups of 3 or more the difference is often small — and the flexibility is much greater.
