Tanzania's seasons at a glance

  • June – October (dry season): clear skies, short grass and wildlife gathered around water — classic safari conditions and Mara River crossings in the northern Serengeti. The busiest and often most expensive time.
  • November – December (short rains): brief afternoon showers, green landscapes and fewer visitors.
  • January – February: a warm, drier window and calving season in the southern Serengeti — superb for predators and photography.
  • March – May (long rains / green season): heavier rain, especially in April. Lush scenery, lower lodge rates and very few vehicles; some camps close.
